Some Activities of Bangladesh Documentary Council:

Bangladesh Documentary Council has been implementing deferent kind of programs and activities in the short tenure since its formation, some of these are as follows:

A) Film Festivals:

  • Successfully organized 4 (Four) Documentary Film Festivals titled ‘Documenting Bangladesh’ of selective Bangladeshi documentary films at 2005, 2007, 2009 & 2011 along with a seminar & a workshop at Public Library Auditorium, Dhaka.
  • Successfully organized a week long film festival jointly with Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Short Film Forum & Dhaka Art Center, titled ‘Classic Digital Film Week 2012’.

B) Workshop & Courses:

  • Successfully organized an 8 days long Documentary Film Making Workshop in association with British Council & Scottish Documentary Institute from 18-25 march, 2010.
  • Organized a camera operating course focuses on Photography of Documentary Film, in which 15 young males and females took part.

C) National Seminar & Special Sessions:

  • Organized a National Seminar  jointly with Goethe Institute, titled ‘True & False of Documentary’ presented by eminent film writer Mahmudul Hossain and also participated by Germany based eminent film maker Shaheen Dil-Riaz  at  German Cultural Center Auditorium on 6 September 2007.
  • Arranged a two days special session titled ‘Documentaries of the World’ of six world famous contemporary foreign feature length documentary cinemas at Novera Hall, National Museum on 28, 29 April, 2006.
  • Organized a special Lecture and Q/A Session jointly with Goethe Institute, titled ‘Film Production Possibilities with Germany’ presented by Kathrin Lemme, producer, Lemme Film, Hamburg, Germany at  German Cultural Center Auditorium on 8 February 2008.
  • Organized a Meet the Director program with eminent American documentary maker Carl Byker at Sangskrity Bikash Kendra Auditorium on 12 January 2008.
  • Organized a Round Table Meeting jointly with Liberation War Museum, titled ‘Documenting Liberation War’ participated by country’s eminent journalists, researchers, film makers and cultural personalities at the premises of Liberation War Museum on 8 December 2007.

D) Screenings & Others:

  • Organized an Open Air Screening of the film ‘Ninth Months to Freedom’ jointly with Sammilito Sanskritik Jote marking the National Independence Day at the Central Shahid Minar on 26 March 2008.
  • Arranging regular documentary film screening, theoretical discussion, seminars, lectures, meet the director program and so on in almost every month jointly with Alliance Francaise, Goethe Institut, Sangskriti Bikash Kendra and with others.
  • Published four quality Brochures at the time of four festivals in 2005, 2007, 2009 & 2011.
  • Developing a library of books and DVDs on locals and foreign documentaries.
