Documentary Film and Its Power:

When Cinema first came into existence during the 1890's, viewers saw some kind of ‘actuality’ film, which is in fact the first inspiration for one of today’s strongest, film genre- Documentary. After passing a century, documentary film has established itself as a very powerful and stimulus film medium worldwide by representing the reality in creative manners. 

Human and their creation, society, politics, history, rights, religion, their surroundings and above all their truth and reality are depicted in new viewpoint, in creative thoughts on deferent documentary films. Documentary can strike us by presenting the rude & pure reality and can create poems also from the reality.

Documentary can stimulate the fight for freedom, democracy, development and rights. It can raise voice against all kinds of political, social and economical oppression, injustice, exploitation and inequality. Documentary can be witness of the history and can rediscover the history. Most of all, documentary can be an inspiring social power of building a secular, equal and progressive society and culture.


About Bangladesh Documentary Council:

Understanding all the power and art of documentary film, Bangladesh Documentary Council has emerged as the national representative body and a free forum of independent documentary makers, producers, critics, cultural workers and interested and conscious viewers in the year of 2004. We strongly believe that forming this council would open a new horizon for documentary film movement in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Documentary Council has set some initiatives as its primary aims to popularize this specific mode of cinema around the country as a creative, strong, effective social force, which are as follows:

  • Arrange regular screening of local and foreign documentary films
  • Organize discussion, seminar, workshop on deferent aspects of documentary
  • Arrange training for interested documentary makers
  • Assistance in getting funds for documentary production
  • Distribution of local and foreign documentaries
  • Build an effective communication network with local and foreign documentary makers/organizations
  • Set up a national documentary film archive
  • Publish deferent publications on deferent aspects of documentary film
